What is the JHA Bodoni Ritalic font?
The story of “Bodoni Ritalic” began in 2006. It began as a favor for a colleague and was my starting point for dealing with serifed faces.
There is one feature that makes this typeface remarkable. It is its reversed tilting angle to the left. The idea was compelling although there were predecessors, mainly used in cartography. Bodoni faces are a challenge, because of their formal accomplishment. In 2006 my type design capabilities were developing, but not to the point of reaching a fine and well articulated Bodoni interpretation cut by Heinrich Jost for the Bauersche Gießerei (German Foundry). I have therefore revised this type completely, utilizing Bodoni’s “Manuale tipografico” as a guide. I learned a lot working with the larger font sizes, therefore I conceptualised Bodoni Ritalic for display purposes larger than 18pt.
