Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, with the objective of scoring goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is primarily played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, which has goalposts at each end. Players primarily use their feet to control and pass the ball, but they can also use other parts of their bodies excluding their arms and hands (except for goalkeepers).

Football is known by different names in various countries; in the United States and Canada, it refers to American football, whereas the global game is often called “soccer.” The sport is governed internationally by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and it is one of the most popular sports worldwide. Football’s origins can be traced back to various forms of ancient ball games, but the modern version began to formalize in the 19th century. The sport is famed for its major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup, held every four years, which showcases national teams from around the globe.
